The Rob Jeffrey Memorial Trophy

Mark Bebbington of AFC Woodseats and Nick Bianco of table leaders Broomhill Pirates, show off the Rob Jeffrey Memorial Trophy.

Woodseats had approached Broomhill about the idea of a memorial trophy to be played for when the clubs played each other, after the tragic death of Broomhill's goalkeeper late last year.

The first game played late last month ended 2-2.
Pirates took the honours after a penalty shoot-out.

SDFPL Cheque presentation

After an amazing day at Bramall Lane back on May 10th, the SDFPL announced the final sum raised for the local Children's hospital was £6258.

The sum was handed over last week and SDFPL chairman Tchad Western is seen above making the presentation along with representatives from Bell & Buxton and the Sheffield Children's Hospital.

The day included a charity game between The Sheffield Children's Hospital and against a select Rest of NHS Team,  a SDFPL select game where representatives of teams from Division One play players from Division Two, and SDFPL penalty shoot-out competition along with the full cup final between Swallownest Bethesda and league champions Ecclesia.

The league would like to thank Bell and Buxton for their support throughout planning and staging this event.

A disk containing photo’s for the days event can be purchased for £3 while a DVD of the cup final will cost £15. Please contact Tchad Western if you are interested.

SDFPL Forum - Fantasy Football Euro 2008

The forum's Euro 2008 Fantasy Football competition has been won by :-

Joe Williams - Williams' Wizards

Well done to Joe, he will shortly receive his prize of a Brazil replica shirt.

The F.F. competition will return in a few weeks in time for the new Premier League Season.

SDFPL Fixtures:- Steel City Derby, 19th October

The Sheffield Wednesday Vs Sheffield United game has been moved to Sunday the 19th October.

As with last season, we were planning on not staging any SDFPL fixtures on derby days as most teams have season ticket holders for both clubs which can cause problems.

Because of the 24hour delay in the game for TV coverage, we will now use the 18th for league fixtures as normal.

AGM Details - Structure for 08-09

The league held it’s AGM at St. Thomas’s Philadelphia campus on Thursday the 5th June.
The league committee reminded managers of the leagues ethos before announcing the divisional structure for the coming season which will see both divisions remaining at around 11 teams in each division.
City Wolves were confirmed as leaving the league while Yorkshire New Saints will take their place in division two after a successful application.
Next season will start on the 6th September will cup dates provisionally set for September 27th, October 11th and February 21st
Fees for the season will remain the same as last season and changes to the rules were put forward.
The league also stated after great interest in the forum’s fantasy football competition, a full competition would take place through the 2008-2009 Premier League campaign.

The meetings minutes can be downloaded in the League Events section.

SDFPL Cup Final - Swallownest Bethesda 1-2 Ecclesia

After sealing the league title a week earlier, the two SDFPL rivals met again at Bramall Lane with Ecclesia looking to collect their first league and cup double.

2008-2009 SDFPL Divisional Select Match - Div One Vs Div Two

The league decided to hold it's divisional select game as a curtain raiser to the cup final at Bramall Lane.
The game was staged for the first time last season where the big boys from the top flight triumphed 6-2 over the second division side at Swallownest Miners Welfare.
On the bigger stage it was a lot closer this time round as the second division boys were out for revenge.
Both teams created good chances but the top flight boys edged to a second consecutive victory when Swallownest's cup tied striker Ricki Watson fired home into the far corner.
